The National Physicians Alliance believes that the best way to win public trust is to earn it.  Hollywood agrees.  Side Effects premiered this week, a Steven Soderbergh film starring Jude Law and Rooney Mara.  Film has rarely been kind to psychiatrists and this release is no exception. It casts doctors in as dim a light as incarcerated hedge fund managers.  On this score, one restaurant scene stands out, in which a pharmaceutical industry representative is recruiting doctors to participate in clinical trials and receive big bucks for enrolling patients.  Integrity is hard to find in this chilling drama, where the profession stands accused of selling out.  The film reflects a deepening and well placed skepticism of physician-industry ties, and this mainstream, widescreen accusation could prove helpful in the long run.  The medical profession can choose to take offense, or—better—it can take a good hard look in the mirror.   Visit www.UnbrandedDoctor.org
