TED.com is featuring a recent TED Talk by NPA board member Rishi Manchanda MD MPH, in which Manchanda makes the case for moving healthcare upstream.
This talk, based on Manchanda’s book The Upstream Doctors, engages a lay audience in thinking differently about health care and comes at an exciting time. A growing number of partners are working to train and support ‘Upstreamists’ – innovators who bridge the gap between their healthcare systems and public health with the goal of improving the health of patients where it begins: in the social and environmental conditions of their everyday lives.
Manchanda hopes that his TED Talk helps engage a broad audience – patients, providers and public health advocates alike – in dialogue and action to bridge clinical care and public health and to improve the culture of health.
