Ann Alexander, JD
Senior Attorney, Midwest Program, National Resources Defense Council
Ann Alexander is a litigator and policy advocate whose work covers a broad range of key Midwest regional issues. She works extensively on Clean Water Act matters, advocating for tougher regulation of algae-fueling nutrient pollution that is contributing to the Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone, and for more stringent controls on sewage pollution impacting the Chicago River. She was also the lead negotiator for a broad coalition of environmental groups working to develop legislation and regulations governing fracking in Illinois, and she continues to work on fracking-related issues throughout the Midwest. She additionally leads efforts to curb air and water pollution from coal-fired power plants and refineries in the Midwest.
Across the country, politicians are introducing and passing laws that interfere in the relationship between patients and their health care providers—laws that undermine evidence-based care and challenge clinical free speech. This trend of political interference is happening with respect to environmental hazards and more. Communication between patients and their health care providers must be allowed to flow freely so the relationship can be grounded in trust and informed by scientific evidence. Read our new white paper on these issues –Politics in the Exam Room– co-authored by the National Partnership for Women and Families, the National Physicians Alliance, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.
