About the Rx: Vote Campaign
The Rx: Vote Campaign emerged in response to the experiences of National Physicians Alliance members and our allies. Across the nation, these health care providers and voter advocates realized:
-
Without exercising the right to vote, patients and those who care for them lack the power to improve the health of their communities. As a result, patients' health, and the health of our democracy, suffer.
-
The nation's community health centers, clinics, and hospitals have a unique ability and responsibility to empower patients to participate in the democratic process and advocate for vital health reform.
-
Working together under one banner with a shared set of principles and tools, health and voter advocacy groups can achieve unprecedented levels of voter participation among patients and those who care for them.
Together, we can bring the voter participation movement within the walls of health clinics across the nation, directly to patients who lack a political voice.
With the Rx: Vote Campaign, we resolve to:
-
register and mobilize patients across the nation to exercise their right to vote
-
build a broad, historic coalition of health care workers, students, patient advocate, and voter mobilization groups to give patients a voice in the political process
-
educate patients and prospective voters about vital health issues in a non-partisan manner
-
help patients advocate for equitable, affordable, high quality health care for all
-
improve the civic engagement of health care workers and clinics across the nation
