Jean Silver-Isenstadt, MD, PhD, Executive Director

Jean Silver-Isenstadt holds a doctorate in the history and sociology of medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, a medical degree from the University of Maryland, and a master’s degree in nonfiction and science writing from the Johns Hopkins University.  Her doctoral work focused on 19th-century American health reform.  She is the author of Shameless: The Visionary Life of Mary Gove Nichols (Baltimore: Johns Hopkins University Press, 2002), a biography of the infamous and influential health advocate and social reformer best known for her leadership of the water-cure movement and for her scandalous public lectures to women on anatomy and physiology.

Ann Woloson, Director of Education

Ann Woloson serves as the Director of Education for the National Physicians Alliance and will coordinate educational activities as part of the Alliance Partnership to Advance Conflict-Free Medical Education. Ann also serves as Executive Director of Prescription Policy Choices, a nonprofit, educational and public policy organization which provides objective research, information, and expertise on prescription drug policy.  As a former chief of staff to Maine Senate Majority Leaders for nearly 4 years, she provided expertise regarding health care service delivery and financing and overall health care reform.  Prior to her work at the Maine Legislature, Ann worked as a health care policy analyst and advocate for several years in Maine’s nonprofit sector and also as a policy writer for the Maine State Medicaid Program – MaineCare.  She has served on numerous health care related boards including the Governor’s Health Action Team, and previously chaired the State Medicaid Advisory Committee.  Ann was also an active member of Maine’s Dual Diagnosis Task Force aimed at improving care for people suffering from both mental illness and substance abuse and most recently served as a member of the Commission to Study Primary Care Medical Practice in Maine.

Becky Martin, Program Manager

Becky Martin lives in Florida with her husband and 3 children. A long-time advocate for quality, affordable health care for all and women’s reproductive rights Becky joined the staff of the Florida Consumer Action Network, as Program Organizer in 2004 to coordinate their work on Medicare Part D Prescription Coverage.  Beginning in spring 2005, Becky became the Outreach and Education Coordinator at the Universal Health Care Action Network.  At UHCAN she helped to organize their work connecting local health care justice advocates with state-based allies working to protect and expand safety programs with national allies working on health care reform at the federal level.  As efforts toward national health care reform advanced Becky’s work focused on expanding the utilization and sharing of available resources; as well as building connections between national and state health care justice advocates and allies in the union movement, and women’s rights and health care provider communities.

In fall 2009 Becky became the National Physicians Alliance Program Manager.  Her duties include:  helping to coordinate the NPA Annual Meetings, overseeing operations of NPA project grant deliverables and reporting, and helping to grow and develop NPA connections, resources and membership.
