Support CDC Research on Gun Violence

Good News. NOT ONLY did the House pass the Thompson Amendment yesterday–increasing funding for states to submit additional records of prohibited firearm purchasers to the FBI ‘s National Instant Criminal Background Checks System (NICS), BUT ALSO, on May 21, Senator Markey and Congresswoman Maloney introduced bicameral legislation that would fund $10 million each year from FY15 through FY20 for gun violence prevention and gun safety research via the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

This is vital work that has been starved by NRA lobbyists for far too many years.

The NPA has sent an organizational letter of support to Congress, but we must do more to put this legislation on the President’s desk.

I am asking you to please take the next ninety seconds to use our easy click-through tool and reinforce this support by emailing your own members of Congress to take action. They need to hear from their constituents that supporting gun violence research at the CDC is something you value.

In the wake of yet another gut-wrenching shooting, as the nation cries out for elected leaders to “Do Something!” we have before us another concrete, necessary piece of legislation. It needs co-sponsors. It needs backing.

Thank you for taking action.
