About our speakers:

Drs. Lisa M. Schwartz and Steven Woloshin are the co-Directors of the Center for Medicine and the Media at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, and former co-Directors of the VA Outcomes Group (White River Junction, VT). Their research addresses the excessive fear and hope created by exaggerations, distortions, and selective reporting in medical journals, advertising, and the health news. They have worked to improve communication of medical evidence to physicians, journalists and the public (specifically focusing on prescription drugs, screening tests and statistics). They are the co-authors of 2 books: Know Your Chances and Overdiagnosed, occasional columnists for the British Medical Journal, and their essays have appeared in the New York Times and Washington Post. They are the co-founders of Informulary, Inc. a company that focuses on getting consumers, clinicians, and health care policy makers the information they need to understand the benefits, harms and uncertainties of prescription drugs.

NPA’s National Grand Rounds are offered as part of the Partnership to Advance Conflict-free Medical Education (PACME). This partnership and related materials were made possible by a grant from the state Attorney General Consumer and Prescriber Education Grant Program which is funded by the multi-state settlement of consumer fraud claims regarding the marketing of the prescription drug Neurontin.
