On behalf of our Board of Directors, I am excited to introduce you to Dr. Manan Trivedi, the new President of the National Physicians Alliance. NPA conducted a robust search process in the prior months that identified not only wonderful candidates for our posted position, but also an expanded vision for NPA’s future work to develop physician leaders that advocate and partner to improve the health of our patients, our communities, and our nation.
Dr. Trivedi is an internal medicine physician with over 20 years of experience in clinical medicine, health policy research, strategic communications, and health care advocacy. He is a former Navy Officer who humbly served our nation as a medical team commander in Iraq in 2003, overseeing the care of 1,500 forward deployed Marine Corps and Naval forces. For his service, he was awarded a Combat Action Ribbon and his unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation.
Since that time, he has had a distinguished career through both his clinical and policy work. As a VA researcher in 2006, he drew attention to PTSD among veterans via qualitative studies that helped shape Veterans’ mental health policy. While serving with the Navy Surgeon General as the Department Head of Emerging Health Policy, he focused on cost containment initiatives, primary care system evaluation, and clinical aspects of an $18 million operational injury and treatment model.
More recently, he was the Democratic Nominee for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 6th district for three consecutive cycles. His campaigns fought for strong health care and social justice platforms and led the charge in advocating for evidence-based policy solutions.
He has extensive experience practicing as a clinical hospital medicine physician in academic and tertiary medical systems, as well as larger health care systems, including Kaiser Permanente. He will continue his hospital medicine practice part-time while serving as NPA President.
His proudly cites his family as most important in his life, including his wife, Surekha, and his two daughters Sonia, age 6, and Ashmi, age 2.
Dr. Trivedi will officially start with NPA on November 11, and I cannot wait for as many of our NPA leaders, members, and friends to meet him as possible. Will you help us get off to a good start by sending a welcome message to Dr. Trivedi? We’ll print out the submissions and give them to him during his first days in the office. I have been honored to get to know him through the search process, and I am certain that all of you will soon understand my excitement, as the Board partners with him to effectively grow NPA’s voice for the health of our patients and this great nation.
