Winter Bees Cleansing Flight

We’re generally in sub-zero weather here in February, but we happened to have a beautiful sunny day with temps up into the high 60sF.  We opened the doors and windows in the greenhouse and immediately had some visitors peeking in. First, it was just one bee, then it left and came back a few minutes later, with about 10 of his friends, and then dozens showed up - all to feast on our greenhouse flowers chock full of pollen.

This is called a Cleansing Flight. On warm days, honey bees will leave the hive to eat & ‘cleanse’ (a nice way to say poop).

I hope it brightens your day - it sure did ours.
